Hello Everyone,

We had a great week watching Bee Movie at our private cinema event last week. It was fun having such and large and enthusiastic turn out. I’m keen to do it again!

This week we start our Before it Starts series. It’s a domestic abuse primary prevention youth group program which will be really helpful as we think about how to have safe and loving relationships.

More details are below and let me know know if you have any questions.

See you on Friday!

Tom

Things you should know for Term Four:

Before it Starts

This term at INYG we will be doing a series called ‘Before it Starts’. It’s a domestic abuse primary prevention program, designed to help young people build loving safe relationships with each other. It’s not a particularly intense program, but I recognise the topic may be sensitive. If you want to know more, or are interested in the content, please let me know. I’d be happy to tell you more and share the material with you.

Here’s the official blurb on the program:

Before It Starts is a free, four-week youth group program that focuses on building healthy relationships and preventing domestic abuse. This primary prevention program has been developed by Anglicare and Youthworks, with the goal of promoting safe and respectful relationships in our churches.

Before It Starts provides an opportunity to reflect on beliefs, attitudes and behaviours from a biblical perspective. It explains different forms of abuse, provides guidance on how to recognise and respond to unhealthy relationships, suggests avenues for getting help and provides key information for leaders on how to respond to disclosures of abuse.

We get it, it’s a tricky topic! But it’s important that we’re aware of it so that we can stop domestic abuse before it starts.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35
