Holy God, Three-in-One, knowing your power, and knowing your love for us, we bring our prayers for the world and her people. As we pray, we ask you to remind us of your love for each person and for the earth itself. Encourage us in our commitment to live as citizens of your kingdom and to work for its flourishing in our midst.
Lord we pray:
Your kingdom come, your will be done.
We pray for places and peoples being devasted by ongoing wars, violence, and conflict. We name before you Iran and the USA, Ukraine and Russia, Gaza and Israel, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, and Myanmar. We pray for wisdom and integrity for leaders, compassion for neighbours, courage for those who work for justice and peace, and strength for all who serve the vulnerable. Open our hearts to your presence among us today, and make us instruments of your love, hope, and peace in the world.
Lord we pray:
Your kingdom come, your will be done.
We pray for people and places impacted recently by severe weather events – heatwaves, drought, and fires in Europe; earthquakes in Japan; floods in Afghanistan; wildfires in Canada;severe storms in the USA; and typhoons in Asia. Strengthen those who respond with courage and compassion, and bring comfort, safety, and hope to every affected community.
Lord we pray:
Your kingdom come, your will be done.
Closer to home we pray for the community of Brimbank, following the violent death of Van Viet Truong, and for his family, friends, and nearby shopkeepers. Bring healing and peace, we pray, to this community in their grief, anger, and fear. We pray for wisdom for state and municipal leaders, and for the police, that their decisions and actions will reassure and support the community at this difficult time. We pray for the young perpetrators of this violent crime, for their accountability and justice, but also for their transformation. Reach into the darkest places of their lives and move them towards redemption, rehabilitation, and peace. Jesus Prince of Peace, we ask for your presence in the streets, businesses, and homes of Brimbank, and we pray that you will be drawing people to yourself.
Lord we pray:
Your kingdom come, your will be done.
We pray for your church. Give us a revived awareness of the transcendent amazingness and the radical holiness of Jesus, so that our church communities will be fully awake to his presence in greater wonder, reverence, and awe. Give us compassion for those stumbling in darkness, and help us to show Christ to those who have no faith. May we shine your light willingly and with joy wherever we go and whatever we do.
Lord we pray:
Your kingdom come, your will be done.
We pray that Christ will reveal his gracious presence to all who suffer. We pray particularly for those in our St John’s community who are sick or in need, and for others whose needs we hold in our hearts. Through the life-giving power of your Holy Spirit, make your sustaining presence known to all who are in pain or need, so that they may know your love and live.
Lord we pray:
Your kingdom come, your will be done.
Lord God, hear the prayers we offer, and let your grace and mercy flow to us, and to all those for whom we pray. We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen
Let us join together in the prayer which Jesus gave us:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.
