There is no getting around how confronting a book like Numbers can be to us. The passage we are looking at this week ranges from a ritual curse for faithlessness to a blessing that is still used in churches throughout the world today. The easy thing to do would be to say this is just the past we have moved on from. The wiser thing to do is to dig a bit deeper into the text to uncover its lasting themes and ask if this has anything to teach us about God and ourselves.
