The angel Gabriel came to Mary in her home and greeted her with, “You have found favour with God.” The angel’s word here is normally translated as “grace” but is here “favour”. It became the great Christian word. St Paul began his letters to the earliest churches, “grace (favour) to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus”. The great news is that we too can find favour with God when we trust the Son he loves and who he sent into our world.
