We have caused a problem by saying love is all you need. Some churches have taught that God accepts us regardless of how we live, but that is barely half the Biblical truth. We teach like this because we fear building on the self-accusation that many of us carry now. So many of us are deeply convinced that we are not worthwhile, but Grace that does not change us and Love that does not strive to heal us are not an adequate answer to the accusations we live under. Instead, these forms of Grace and Love come too close to being an acceptable form of divine abandonment. They are not the sacrificial, interfering, and demanding love the Bible says God has shown us in Christ (1 John 4:7-12). James dares to take us into this when he writes about faith being shown by our works or it is nothing. Join us for Holy Communion from 10am Sunday, 24/8 as we continue in James’ lessons on how to grow as disciples of Jesus.
