When I was young I was taught that people’s experience of God was an illusion, that God being a projection, a wish for something better. It was like saying religion is an opiate of the people – it sounded clever so we believed it. The trouble with these denials is that most people have spiritual experiences so maybe we should not write that evidence off. What I have learnt since is that most people do experience God in some way, many of us can also distort what we can know about God but Jesus offers us a rich and deep experience of God. We are thinking about this topic at our 10am worship this Trinity Sunday 15/6. At our 5pm Alpha course we are asking who is the Holy Spirit and what does he do? (Mike Flynn – Vicar)
