It is hard, in Jesus’ famous parable of the younger son who trashes his life in a far country, to figure out who the prodigal is. The Oxford Dictionary says prodigal means ‘wasteful, extravagant’. That seems to be self-centred, reckless, and indulgent son, but could it also be the father who humilitates himself in welcoming the son back? But welcome us back, God does in Jesus Christ. Except for the sacrifice of Christ, this grace offered to us by God would be inherently unjust. But here is the offer, in all its fragile beauty and insistent power— the embrace that God offers us that stops our excuses and our pleas. “This is my child… they were dead, and now they are alive.” Join us in worship of this gracious God, 10 a.m. this Sunday, 30/3.
