John the Baptist is a straight-talking preacher and people responded. Without vested interests, he called out our hypocrisies from the workers and soldiers to the political classes. He asked us to honour God and therefore honour ourselves by doing something all struggle to do – be fair. After all, repentance, to prepare for the coming of God to our world and lives, has been a requirement of every Advent season, every church revival and every conversion to Christ.
