One of the enduring themes that emerges from the book of Numbers is how leadership is constantly challenged. It seems that everyone wants to be Moses and the intensity of these challenges only increases from Exodus and Numbers. Eventually, the people reject entirely Moses’ leadership and the plans of God for them. The people are then set free to have what they chose, but what is unsettling for us is how familiar these leadership challenges look to us in the church now.
