In its original language the biblical book of Numbers is called ‘in the wilderness’. It describes how, following the dramatic Exodus from Egypt, God’s people left Mount Sinai and began to journey to the promised land of Canaan. In our gospels, Numbers is about Jesus, then, in the other writings of the New Testament, Numbers is about us. The lessons and warning of Numbers are directly for us as the church takes the place of the ancient people of God in the wilderness, testing, battles and hope that we face. This week we start our journey with the people of God in Numbers, join us this Sunday at either 10 am (prayer and praise) or 5 pm (Communion and healing service).
