The personal is the political in Romans 13. The apostle Paul describes how Christianity can bring political change but it is a subversive change based in moving us away from final allegiance to the authorities we live under. Paul explains that politics is part of our worship of God, part of us discerning God’s hand at work in our world (12.1-2). This means learning how to thoughtfully submit to the governing authorities as they support the good (13.3), but, with respect, standing against them when they want to claim what rightfully belongs to God. It also means even our personal behaviour can have a lasting social impact (13.8-13). Join us at 10am this Sunday, 29/10, as we consider how clothing ourselves in Christ (13.14) is the political action our time needs.
