One reason our culture struggles with Christianity is that we assume it is a failed version of what we normally do. We set rules, guidelines, laws, and social norms that shape our thinking and actions. We try to live by these standards while, at the same time, holding a sense of our own unworthiness. The apostle Paul, in his letter to the Romans, says we don’t stand in our own frail self-worth but we stand in the worthiness of Jesus, who is the mercy of God to us, and from there, we are able to change, grow, and flourish.
