On Pentecost we celebrate the Holy Spirit. On the 50th day after Passover was the Feast of Weeks. This marked the first-fruits of the grain harvest (Deut. 16:9) and commemorated the   giving of the Law by  Moses. Many gathered in Jerusalem on that day for one of the major festivals of Israel (Acts 2). As Jesus promised, the Holy Spirit then descended on the new community following him (Acts 2:1). It is the Spirit who works in us to enable us to set our minds on things that are above (Col. 3:2). Len Firth will preach from Colossians 3:1–17 on A Church Alive in Christ.
